Panel Session

Smart Device Communications/M2M
In Support of A Sustainable Future - Opportunities & Challenges

Abstract: The pervasive network of intelligent and connected devices will realize the "Connected Planet". Some experts have estimated that this calls for the deployment of almost a trillion smart objects talking to each other, autonomously and under subscriber control, presumably for the benefit and protection of our quality of life, and a sustainable future. This special panel session will provide a perspective on the market segments/areas of applicability, how ICT supports Sustainability, the regulatory steps necessary, the need for and current state of standardization, a look at the types of products and services envisioned, the security requirements that must be designed in from the outset, and other key challenges. Finally, some comments on how this applies to opportunities for companies in Singapore, India, and the US, will be provided.
